à la carte Calligraphy FAQs

Please read the following thoroughly before placing your order. By placing your order, you acknowledge you have ready and accept our policies.

General FAQs

What do you mean by à la carte calligraphy?

By à la carte we mean that this is a service for customers who want just calligraphy and ordered their wedding invitations elsewhere. If you ordered invitations from our Wedding Collection, please submit your calligraphy order through the respective suite page to get discounted pricing.

What's the difference between pointed pen and monoline calligraphy?

Pointed pen refers to shaded script written using a traditional calligraphy holder and nib that is dipped in ink.

Monoline refers to a script written with a marker or pen that has a single, consistent line weight. Monoline lettering is a budget-friendly alternative to pointed pen calligraphy.

What if I have to make a change to MY address/guest list?

Depending on our availability and how close we are to your deadline, we may be able to accommodate changes/additions to the address/guest list. We will do our very best to accommodate, but changes are not guaranteed. Any additions or revisions due to typos (or otherwise) to the guest list after initial submission will incur a $20 setup fee per round of revisions and the $20 custom/metallic ink fee if applicable, in addition to the cost of the calligraphy as follows*:

  • Pointed pen address: $6.00 per envelope

  • Monoline address: $4.50 per envelope

  • Card stock name card (monoline): $2.00 per flat card; $2.15 per tented card

  • Card stock name card (pointed pen): $2.60 per flat card; $2.75 per tented card

  • Deckled name card (pointed pen): $2.80 per flat card; $3.10 per tented card

  • Handmade paper name card (pointed pen): $2.90 per flat card; $3.35 per tented card

  • Card stock name card (printed): $2.92 per flat card; $3.05 per tented card

  • Deckled name card (printed): $3.92 per flat card; $4.04 per tented card

*This pricing applies only to orders of 20+. Quantities of less than 20 will be charged at a higher rate. Please contact hello@ettiekim.com for pricing.

Are you able to print addresses on darker envelopes?

I am only able to print on light-colored envelopes at this time.

Do you address metallic envelopes?

I am not taking any addressing orders for envelopes with a metallic (or otherwise slippery) finish at this time. Please keep this in mind when shopping for your envelopes.

What are my ink color options?

For pointed pen calligraphy orders, I offer black, yellow gold, rose gold, silver, white, and custom ink colors, so the sky is the limit! Base pricing covers black ink only. Please note that metallic, white, and custom ink colors incur a flat fee that will be added on top of your order. Upgrade your ink by purchasing the ink add-on listing.

For monoline calligraphy orders, only black ink is available at this time.

Envelope Calligraphy FAQs

How do I place my order?

  1. Browse our calligraphy styles and choose your favorite.

  2. Add the ink add-on listing if you'd like to upgrade your ink to metallic/custom ink.

  3. Download and fill out the Address List Template.

  4. Proofread it once and again for good measure, and email it to hello@ettiekim.com. Addressing etiquette guide is included in the template.

  5. Send your blank envelopes to my Philadelphia studio.

  6. The standard turnaround time is 7-14 business days starting from the day I receive your envelopes and final address list to the day I ship them to you. Exact turnaround depends on the size of your order. Rush orders are possible based on availability for an additional +50% of the total balance.

What do the listed prices cover?

Pricing covers the service of envelope addressing only and does not include envelopes, cost of shipping, invitation assembly, postage application, return address printing, etc. You will send the envelopes to my Philadelphia studio, and I will address them and send them back to you.

I'm still figuring out the headcount for my guest list. How many envelopes do you recommend that I order?

I recommend overestimating the number of envelopes you'll need in case of last minute additions to the guest list. You will also want a few extras to keep as keepsake and have photographed as part of your day-of details on your wedding day. If you are not sure how many envelopes you need at this time but want to go ahead and book a place in my calendar, please submit a nonrefundable security deposit, which will go towards the final cost of your order.

How many envelopes should I send you?

I request that you provide at least 25-30% extra envelopes to account for paper testing, ink splatters and other accidents (I'm only human, after all!). These extra envelopes are also helpful for me to have on hand in case of any guest list revisions or additions. For orders of 20-50 envelopes, I ask for a minimum of 15 envelopes. For orders of 60-100 envelopes, I ask for a minimum of 20 extra envelopes, but the more the better!

Can you source envelopes for me?

I am more than happy to source envelopes at extra cost. Please contact me at hello@ettiekim.com.
